Pilates Pain, Painted Palms

I've been keeping pretty busy lately, even though I don't have to keep up with schoolwork right now. The break from studying is very welcome, and I've found many things to take up the extra time, many of which I had put off because of pressing schoolwork.

I picked up some Pilates videos at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago, and so a few days ago, I decided to try them out. I went downstairs, and put the first tape in. Dad decided to come down and get some exercise, too. It didn't take too long of seeing me rolling like a ball for him to decide to mow the lawn instead. I think it made him nervous. But I've been enjoying it, for the most part. The thing that I've had to get used to is pain when I laugh. Pilates requires a lot of control from your core, and I've been feeling the effects whenever someone says anything funny.

I rejoined the church choir, which made me very happy. I really love the wonderful people in choir. They truly are a fantastic bunch of people. And I enjoy the great songs Pastor Williams picks out for us. I'm looking forward to getting more in tune again. After a while of letting my vocal chords go, I'm a bit rusty.

Mom and I have made it a goal this summer to fix up the house in whatever ways we can. Today we primed the bathroom that Tim and I share. It needed it--the previous owner was, well, a bit decorating-challenged. This bathroom was all seafoam green with fishy wallpaper on the lower half of one wall. Yeah, it was pretty cheesy. And I don't really know what she used to fasten the wallpaper to the wall, but I suspect that she may have used Dentyne. It was so hard to get the backside of the wallpaper off! I ripped up my thumbnails trying to scrape it. It was the only thing that worked. Even the ceiling was painted crazy seafoam. I spent a good amount of time on a stepladder, reaching above my head trying to roll primer on the ceiling. Anyway, now I'm covered in primer. My hands are definitely not modeling material. I'm never going to do that to a house, if/when I am a homeowner. Death to fishy wallpaper!

My 19 year old daughter gets out the Pilates DVD's whenever she's in serious fitness mode. She thinks they're great! I tried one with her once, and I had a really hard time getting my body to do some of those things! But I can see how doing the DVD's regularly would really be beneficial.

I hope the pilates pain doesn't make you stop laughting, or stop saying funny things! An exercise ball is a good core workout. I took a pilates class once, and every one else had hip little roll-up yoga mats, and I had a humongous green mat that I had to carry like a surfboard. It is actually a floating pool toy. Embarrassing. More embarrassing, I use Spanish kickboxing videos to gett in shape. I now know how to say "punch" and "kick" and "I'm going to beat the tar out of you if you don't leave me alone" in Spanish!

You may or may not laugh at this but one time, my good friend and former roommate tried doing pilates with me. And she had a little case of gas. I was never able to do pilates with her again without laughing or making fart noises. We have some pretty funny roommate stories. We were living in a condo that my sister and her husband had rented out to us. It was a two bedroom, 1 1/2 bath. If she was home, and I had to go to the bathroom, I would close the sliding door that led to her bathroom for privacy. Well one time we were both chatting away with each other, both in our separate bathrooms getting ready for bed. I had to go to the bathroom so I sat on the toilet as she continued to talk about her day with me. I guess she just figured it was silly for us to be talking across the sliding door so she decided to open it and saw me sitting on the toilet. We both screamed and then she slammed the sliding door shut. I woke up with a sore stomach the next morning from laughing so hard. We still get a good laugh at that! I don't know who you are, but your testimony greatly encouraged me. Praise the Lord for the great things He has done in your life! I've only been a Christian for about 7 years, and I'm still learning things that I thought knew but didn't. God is so vast and amazing! You remind me so much of my old roommate. If you lived nearby, we'd be hanging out. I'd be over there helping you tear down that cheesy fishy wallpaper. Well, talk with you later!
